Nordmann Christmas tree
Nordmann Christmas trees
The Caucasian silver fir (Abies nordmanniana), Nordmann fir or Crimean fir was introduced in Western Europe in 1838 by the Finnish biologist Alexander von Nordmann (1803-1866) and is increasingly used as a Christmas tree, because the needles fall out less quickly than those of the Norway spruce (Picea abies). The tree grows slowly: it takes twice as long as the Norway spruce for the tree to reach a height of 1.5–2 m.
Denmark is an important producer, exporting 5 million trees per year. The Nordmann Excellent grows well in cold climates. In the Netherlands it is not cold enough to grow a good Nordmann.
Did you know that an average Nordmann Christmas tree is 13 years old? The seeds are harvested in Russia and sown there. The sown trees then remain in Russia for 3 years. When they are 20 cm long, the trees go to Denmark. There the small trees are planted in a field and cared for with great care.
Every year the tree is pruned into shape and a kind of antenna is placed on the top of the tree. This prevents the top from breaking off. Birds often sit on the top and then the top can break off. If this happens, the tree no longer grows nicely in length and can not be sold as Nordmann Excellent.
In the autumn, the trees that may be cut down are selected. This is all done at a family business in Denmark, where Christmas trees have been grown for decades. And where they only work to make the Nordmann Excellent tree and thus distinguish it from the masses. Once the trees have been cut down, the aim is to have the tree delivered to us within 7 days. We receive the trees just before 1 December. As soon as the truck delivers the Christmas trees, we take the trees off the pallets and place them on large water tanks so that the tree can absorb some more water.
The trees are stored in our shed where they no longer get wet from rain, and the Nordmann can be selected indoors. Not in the rain, wind and inclement weather, but while enjoying a Gluwine or hot chocolate milk. This means that you always have a nice dry Nordmann when you select one from us. We always display various trees from which you can choose. There are certainly 8 trees of each size displayed.
The branches have already dropped quite a bit so that you get a good view of the trees. The tree can be viewed from all sides so that you can choose the most beautiful Nordmann that suits you. If you have selected the most beautiful tree for yourself, we will pack the Nordmann in a net again, so that the tree can be transported well in the car. If you prefer us to deliver the tree, that is possible.
We always have an EasyFix hole drilled in our trees as standard. We always have various EasyFix stands from which you can choose. This guarantees that the Nordmann is always straight and that placing the Nordmann on the stand is a piece of cake. In most EasyFix stands you can also water the Nordmann, which the tree really appreciates when it is in the living room. Do not place the Nordmann Excellent above a convector pit or next to a radiator in the house!
